Samaritans from ASB, ASBÖ and DKFH are still on the ground in Nepal to help the affected population after a second earth quake on 12th May once again injured and killed many people set back the re-building efforts.

Together with local NGOs, they are active in transporting and distributing relief materials to secluded settlements in the mountainous terrain. In particular, materials to build emergency tents are being distributed to protect the people from the upcoming monsoon. In the mid-term, the focus will be on the construction of so called T-shelters (temporary or transitional shelters). These structures can be used for up to three to four years in their initial form, but also have the potential to be adapted into a permanent building. Wooden shelters of the same design were already successfully utilised by the Danish Samaritans in Haiti. Now they are being built in the Nepalese town of Bungamati, where at least 4.000 people have become homeless due to the earthquakes.

Italian SAM.I. member ANPAS will be supporting the re-building efforts of the orphanage Motherhood Care Nepal in Lalitpur. ANPAS has been working with this particular orphanage before in international cooperation projects for children, and have received a direct request from them to help with the reconstruction of the building.

You can follow the activities of the Samaritan organisations on their websites. There you can also find ways to support their efforts with your donation!
